Diary of things I have done...

(February 15, 2002) Car is overheating, not bad, but moving off-centre. Something is not right. Tried some cleaning stuff, fixed for awhile but not going over again. Replaced coolant and seems to be keeping it under control. Rained today and still temp went above normal. Driver side window not working, have to jiggle internal cable to get working (sometime). Dash is flashing lights somewhere like there is a short to some of the sensors.

(February 4, 2002) Using a part from a blower (the type ya'd use to blow leaves etc.), I have moved the K&N pod into just below the driver side headlight inside the bumper. Finally fixed the starter after a year! Two starters, a new battery, new power cable and all it needed was a relay setup on the trigger wire. Ignition wire to the trigger must be old and just couldn't supply the power to get the solenoid into position. Run the power wire direct to the battery with a nice thick wire. Cooling system couldn't take the 36 degree day we had in Melbourne and overheated while on the freeway. Returned to normal when idling. Most strange. Run a radiator cleaner through the system and put clean coolant in. Still have leak at back on engine on passenger side. Must be heater pipes back there? Electric drivers side switch stoped work. Broken wire in the door to body wiring. Now have a Lexus V8 AFM. Need injectors. Should be fun. :-)

(November 7, 2001) Cold Air Pipe worked well.. getting 30-50k extra from a tank..
Starter motor is getting sticky.. sometimes not starting for 10-20mins at a time.. just clicks.. will need to get that off and checked.. worse when hot.. bought a 5inch LCD screen from autobahn.. should fill the hole left by the death of the factory TV nicely. Didn't fix leak.. it seems to have fixed itself.. but did notice it leaked once since september..

(September 16, 2001) Found a pipe that was perfect for a 'Cold Air Intake'. It is from the interior of a HZ and connected the heater to the vent. Ribbed for easy bending with a bell mouth. Worked well. Moved plate a little to get even more air to the pod. Will move pod to inside guard when I get a chance. Have water leak at back of engine bay, but only small and when car has been driven a good distance. Suspect transmission to radiator lines. Installed rear speakers using original factory mounts and covers, 6inch were a perfect fit.

(September 2, 2001) Made a plate to stop warm air getting to the airfilter. Made anouther plate on the drivers side airintake to direct more air from the rail to the pipe I ran from the inside of the guard directly to the air-filter. (the intake points directly to a rail suggesting it's more for looks then usefullness).

(July 19, 2001) Saved some $$ and since the rear tyre kept going flat (found afterwards some of the sidewall had come away) purchased some second hand 18inch wheels from the local tyre place (sunshine).. will take pics when I get a chance. no body mods where needed. Installed K&N by making my own pod adapter.

(April 14, 2001) have not written in here in awhile, simply because the car has been running well.. tried running the BOV to atmo, and while it was fun to listen to the little Whsss from the Bosch BOV, it performed better running back into the intake. have purchased a K&N podfilter which i will install as soon as i find a adapter for it. Here are some pics i took of the Boost Guage install. I Installed a single CDplayer after the TV died and i got sick of listening to the radio station (when i could find em blind!). Pic of that too.

(1/Feb/2001) Having problems starting, replaced battery, no bigge. Just had to find battery with correct terminals. $133 from Autobahn. Farm/Truck Battery.Yellow case, bright blue top with yellow caps. Sexy.

(22/1/2001) just finished replacing all the airbag suspension with springed suspension. Fronts were $150 for the pair from a private seller's MA-70 frontcut, they fitted fine. Called just about every Toyota Wrecker in Vic looking for rear's from a MA70 but to no avail.. One wrecker told me to come out only to find that it was completely burnt out.. He found me some original MZ-20 Coil and Spring assembly from a nearby wreckers which cost me $300 (compared to $180 from the same wreckers for a rear pair of MA70 Coil and Spring assembly, which look exactly the same.. ). Needed spring compressors for the rear's to get em bolted in otherwise pretty simple bolt-out / bolt-in conversion. Got some squeaks so probably should have oiled em up or used some WD40.

(14/1/2001) the way to get suspension pump apart is to remove the (long) bolts from the silver base (opposite the piston housing) and hammer DOWN against the bracket that is welded to the side. DO NOT HAMMER IT ON THE SIDES OF THE COMPRESSOR AS THIS SMASHES THE MAGNETS.. I know this from experience

(10/1/2001) was fine when taking it home, suspension was fully extended. Drove it one day and then it stopped pumping up (had to because of leak in rear airbag), I let front down to test the compressor and sure enough now the front won't come up even though I know its fine. aircompressor is now stuffed. Still looking for cheap second hand Coil and Spring assembly. Probably to do with car overheating and spewing water all over the suspension pump as it is located very close by to the overflow bottle.

(2/1/2001) completed putting engine back together Christmas eve. Took pics so I'll post em sometime. Minor problems were:

(21/12/2000) For those sick of seeing only my Soarer.. I added a picture gallery to the site..

(21/12/2000) Have engine apart..purchased an original head gasket from Toyota (against advice to get a MHG at $500) for $140.

(11/12/2000) Driving down the freeway Friday morning, was running OK until I stopped at an intersection and the car's idle was very rough. Drove off again, little rough to start with but run OK again when got up to speed. Just before destination TV came up and started flashing at me. Looked at the temp and sure enough it was right up the top. I had never seen it go 1 about the middle before so I knew something was wrong. Pulled out the spark plugs and sure enough.. Coolant in cylinder 2/3..which meant..blown headgasket...so looks like my diagnosis from a few week's ago was right.. Water was discolored due to headgasket problems..

(1/12/2000) TV has begun to 'shrink'. I was going to keep the airbag suspension only because I wanted to keep the original radio/CD/TV system but.. If the TV is about to die I will go to normal springs

(14/11/2000) BOV is working very well.. Had to wind turbosmart boost controller way down as hitting fuel cut all the time. Installed boost controller with very long piece's of hose which was fine when the BOV was leaking but now without the BOV leak it is bringing up boost to the engine much faster then the boost controller can react. Going to have to make it shorter.

(2/11/2000) replaced BOV with Bosch one from SAAB dealer. New pipe from AFM to turbo as other had split around join to turbo.

Sorry, REALLY bad pic.new pipenew pipe

(30/10/2000) finished installing stereo, front speakers, all wiring and 12" subwoofer. Also took pics of the exhaust tip (4" oval with 3" pipe from turbo)

The TipBad lighting The orginal speakers were boxed and ported, pretty impressive huh? too bad there only 10w and the back half of the box was cut to get side intrustion bars in.The amps in the bootwell wiring running through the factory rubber inside of doortrim with no speaker installed.inside of door trim with speaker installed.

(27/10/2000) brown water and bubbling from coolant system, most likely evil BHG rearing its head. Been like this for 2 months.. Should test it when I get a chance.

(26/10/2000) Complete 3 inch exhaust from turbo back, new cat (better be 3 inch too!), 4 inch oval chrome tip, $1000 and a bottle of scotch. Drones at about 1800-2100 but when it gets on-boost sounds great.. Much better then the factory system with big holes in it I had before..

(26/10/2000) Quote for airbag shock from wreckers (at least they had one) $750

(19/9/2000) I installed a Type-R DSM340 rev/speed meter.. Great little toy.

(27/Aug./2000) I found the front of my Soarer a tad high.. So I 'lowered' it.. There is some sensors for the settings of the height of the front airbags, I simply screwed the arms smaller and now the front of the car sits MUCH lower.. It now looks like a normal car! not like its about to launch itself into the air... too bad when it leaks though
